Hormones are secreted by specialised glands/organs called endocrine glands/organs. Hormones are secreted directly into the bloodstream and they are very specific in their action. They move through the bloodstream to reach the specific target organ where they show their action. Hormones need to be secreted in definite amounts. When secreted in amounts higher than the necessary amount it leads to hyperfunction and when secreted in amounts lower than the necessary amount it leads to hypofunctions. In both of these cases, abnormal effects are seen.
