Question

State the relation of the refractive index with the speed of light of a medium.

Open in App
Solution

  1. The relation of the refractive index with the speed of light of a medium is given as,

n=cv
where ‘n’ is the refractive index of the medium, 'c' is the velocity of light in a vacuum, and 'v' is the velocity of light in the medium.

2. Hence, from the above equation, we know that the refractive index of a medium is inversely proportional to the velocity of light in that medium.
