Question

State the role of MCB in an electrical circuit. In what way it is better than a fuse?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The function of an MCB and a fuse is to protect electrical devices from current surges.
  2. Therefore, an MCB can replace a fuse in any domestic electric circuit.
  3. If the current becomes too large, the MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) breaks the circuit and thereby protects the appliances from damage.
  4. The MCB can be reset easily with a flip of the switch in contrast to a fuse wire which needs to be replaced each time it breaks the circuit.

Hence, MCBs are usually preferred over fuse wires.
