Dear Student,
The protein fibre of silk is composed mainly of fibroin and are produced by certain insect called larvae to form cocoons. The best-known silk is obtained from cocoons of the larvae of mulberry silkworm.
The process of silk production is known as Sericulture.
The production process of silk are divided into several steps-
once the silkworms form their cocoons are formed, the intact cocoons are boiled, killing the silkworm .The silk is then obtained by brushing the undamaged cocoon to find the outside end of the filament.the filament is then pulled carefully to take out the long silk thread forming the cocoon.
