The entire Coromondel coast region depends upon these winter rains for their agriculture. This area is primarily a rice growing territory. Without the north-eastern monsoon rains, this area would be barren. Unlike the rest of India, this area does not receive much rainfall from the southwestern monsoons in the summer.
