Question

State the economic importance of the winter rainfall brought by North-Eastern monsoon winds to the Coromandel Coast.

Open in App
Solution

The winter rainfall brought by the North-Eastern monsoons to the Coromondel coast is extremely important to the economy of that region. The entire Coromondel coast region depends upon these winter rains for their agriculture. This area is primarily a rice growing territory. Without the north-eastern monsoon rains, this area would be barren. Unlike the rest of India, this area does not receive much rainfall from the southwestern monsoons in the summer.
