Question

State the type of bonding in the following molecule:

(a) water.

Open in App
Solution

Type of bonding in water :- Polar covalent bonding.

Bond is formed hydrogen and oxygen by mutual sharing of electrons, so it is a covalent bond.

In water molecule, the oxygen atom attracts the shared electron pair towards itself because of higher electronegativity, thereby developing a slight negative charge on it.

On the other hand, a slight positive charge develops on the hydrogen atoms.

Therefore, a polar covalent bond is formed.
