Question

State the type of Bonding in the following molecules:
Water.

Open in App
Solution

In water H2O molecule, two OH covalent bonds are present. Each OH covalent bond is formed when O atom and H atom shares one electron each. O atom is sp3 hybridized.
O atom has 6 valence electrons out of which 2 are involved in forming 2 OH bonds. The remaining 4 electrons appear as 2 lone pairs of electrons. The electron pair geometry of water is tetrahedral and molecular geometry is bent.
