Slope velocity-time graph
In velocity time graph, velocity is plotted along
Y-axis and time is taken along
X-axis. Since acceleration is the ratio of change in velocity and time taken, therefore the slope of velocity-time graph gives acceleration.
From the above graph,
Slope =BCAC= Change in velocity Change in time = acceleration
Acceleration of a body is the slope of the velocity time graph.
Inference from given velocity-time graph:
Here, the velocity-time graph is a straight line with a constant slope. The slope of the velocity time graph represents acceleration.
As slope of the graph is constant, the body is travelling with a constant acceleration. That is the graph depicts uniform accelerated motion.
Example: The motion of a body that is liberated downwards.
