Dear student,
Nucleopolyhedovirus is a virus that attack on insects specially moths and butterflies and they are excellent candidates for species-specific, narrow-spectrum insecticidal applications. It consists of a polyhedral capsid, an extremely stable protein crystal. This protects the virus in the external environment. This protein crystal is capable of dissolving in the midgut of larva. Being alkaline in nature, the midgut provides congenial environment for release of the virus particle that ultimately infects the larva.
