State the utility of Oxygen for respiration in living organisms.

  • The process of absorption of oxygen from the air into the blood for oxidation of food, to release heat energy, carbon dioxide, and water is known as respiration.

Process:-

  1. Firstly, Oxygen from inhaled air dissolves in the bloodstream of the lungs. It is carried to the cells where the glucose is oxidized by Oxygen.
  2. Carbon dioxide, Water vapor, and heat energy release out from the lungs as exhaled air.
  3. The heat energy liberated in this process is utilized to do metabolic activities and maintain body temperature.
