Question

State the volume of air remaining in the lung after a normal breathing.

Open in App
Solution

The volume of air remaining in the lungs after a normal expiration is known as functional residual capacity (FRC). It includes expiratory reserve volume (ERV) and residual volume (RV) i.e, FRC = ERV + RV.
About 500ml of air goes in and out in each normal breath. Thus, the volume of air remaining in the lungs after a normal breathing will be 4.5 to 5.5 litres.
