State three important characteristics of a molecule.

Open in App
Solution

Molecule: Molecules consist of one or more atoms bound together by covalent (chemical) bonds. For example, water (H2O) is a molecule formed by the combination of hydrogen(H) and oxygen (O) in a 2:1 ratio.

Three important characteristics of a molecule are:

  • Molecules have definite mass and size.
  • A molecule is formed when two or more atoms of the same or different elements combine in a fixed ratio.
  • When a molecule is broken then the properties of that substance are lost.
