Solution

Magnet:

The materials which attarcts magnetic material like iron, nickel are known as magnet.

Three Properties of magnet:

A magnet has two poles:

  1. Region at each end of a magnet where the external magnetic field is strongest is called the poles of a magnet.
  2. Magnet has two poles north pole and south pole.

Magnetic Poles occur in pairs only:

  1. A magnet has both North and South poles and these poles cannot be separated by any means.
  2. If we split up a bar magnet into two pieces, then each piece will behave as a complete magnet.
  3. If we further divide each piece into two parts, then again, each part will have two magnetic poles.
  4. Magnetic poles exist in pairs a complete magnet having both North as well as South poles.
  5. So, we conclude that magnetic poles occur in pairs only

A freely suspended magnet always rests in North-South direction:

  1. When a bar magnet is tied with a string and it is suspended freely in air, it will align itself in north-south direction of earth’s geographical poles.
  2. This property of magnet is known as directive property.
