Question

State two differences between electrostatic force and magnetic force.

Open in App
Solution

Difference between electrostatic and magnetic force
1.The direction of the electrostatic force is parallel or antiparallel to the direction of the electric field, but the direction of the magnetic force is perpendicular to the magnetic field and to the velocity of the charged particle.
2. Electrostatic forces can accelerate a charged particle from rest or stop a moving particle, but magnetic forces cannot."
Electrostatic force
Electrostatic forces refer to the forces between charges which are not moving relative to each other.
Magnetic force
Magnetic force is the force that is created by two magnets. A single magnet cannot create a magnetic force. Magnetic forces are created when a magnet, a magnetic material, or a current carrying wire is placed at an external magnetic field.
