Question

State two factors on which the speed of wave travelling in a medium depends,

Open in App
Solution

Solution
The factor on which wave in a
medium depends are;
(i) Temperature of the medium -Temperature
is a degree of heat energy
in the medium. If the temperature
is high, heat i.e. the kinetic
energy of the particle is high
thus speed of wave will also
be higher.
(ii) Density of the medium - If the
density of medium is high, the
closeness between the vibrating
particles will be higher thus
making it difficult for term
to vibrate. So, the speed act
wave will decrease.
