Following are the two reasons for launching Ganga Action Plan:-
1) To control the non point pollution from dafecation, cattle wallowing, throwing unburnt half burnt bodies into the river, agricultural run off etc.
2) To conserve biotic flora and fauna of the river to maintain the productivity and ecological balance of the river.
Coliform bacteria is found in ganga water indicating contamination.
