Solution

The observations are as follows:

When ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) is added to copper nitrate solution Cu(NO3)2 ,then a pale blue colored precipitate of copper hyroxideCu(OH)2 is formed.

  • The reaction can be represented as:

Cu(NO3)2(aq)+2NH4OH(aq)Cu(OH)2+2NH4NO3(aq)

  • This precipitate turns into a deep inky blue color by adding excess ammonium hydroxide solution.
