Solution

  • When lead nitrate is heated it decomposes in to lead oxide(PbO), Nitrogen dioxide(NO2), and oxygen gas(O2)
  • When lead nitrate crystals are heated strongly, a reddish-brown colored gas is released.

2Pb(NO3)2 (s)heat 2PbO (s) + 4NO2(g) + O2(g)

  • The gas produced is nitrogen dioxide(NO2).
  • This gas has an irritating odour.
  • This is a thermal decomposition reaction.
