Solution

Desert:

  1. Desert rats and snakes build deep holes in the sand during the day and stay in them when it is very hot.
  2. The burrows keep the animals cool during the day, protecting them from the sun's heat as well as the loss of water from their bodies.
  3. Only on cool evenings can desert rats and desert snakes emerge from their tunnels in quest of food.
