A voltage divider is a simple circuit which turns a large voltage into a smaller one.
And different resistors connected in series connection will offer different value of opposition. According to ohm’s law V=IR; since current remains constant in a series connection, Voltage will be directly proportional to resistance. Hence voltage will be divided and resistor with high value of resistance will have high voltage.
Hence a series circuit acts as a voltage divider.
