Question

State whether momentum is scaler or vector quantity find the unit of it in CGS and SI system

Open in App
Solution

Dear student

Momentum is a vector quantity.
Momentum = mass x velocity.
Since velocity is a vector having a definite direction and magnitude, momentum also has the same direction as of the velocity vector.

Remember the definition and you won't have to remember the unit!

Momentum (P) = mass x velocity = kg x m/s = kg m/s (SI unit)

CGS unit of momentum is g cm/s.
