Question

State whether the following are true or false. Justify your answer.
(i) sin(A+B)=sinA+sinB
(ii) The value of sinθ increases as θ increases.
(iii) The value of cosθ increases as increases.
(iv) sinθ=cosθ for all values of θ.
(v) cotA is not defined for A=0.

Solution

(i) False
sin(A+B)=sinA+sinB
A=45o,B=45o
LHS: sin(45o+45o)=sin90o=1
RHS : sinA+sinB=12+12=22=2
LHSRHS

(ii) True
sin0o=0sin30o=12=sin45o=12,sin60o=32
sin90o=1
θ increase ans value of sinθ also increase.

(iii) False
cos0=1,cos30=132,cos45=12
cos60=12,cos90=0
Value of cosθ does not increase from 0<0<90o

(iv) False
This is true for θ=45o
Let θ=90o
sin90=1,cos90=0

(v) True
cotA=cosAsinA

cot0o=cos0sin0=10=not defined
