Solution

Fertilization in plants:

  1. The process of the fusion of male and female gametes within the ovule of the female sex organ is known as fertilization.
  2. When pollen lands on the stigma, it germinates and the growth of the pollen tube begins.
  3. The pollen tube contains the male gamete which follows the style to reach the ovary in which there are ovules and contain the egg cell.
  4. The pollen tube penetrates into the ovule and releases the male gametes into the embryo sac where the egg and polar nuclei are present and thereafter fusion takes place.
