Question

State whether the following statement is true or false:
The centre of gravity of a freely suspended body always lies vertically below the point of suspension.

Solution

The given statement is true

The center of gravity of an object is the point where the moment of weight of all points of the object is zero. Hence if an object is suspended about its centre of gravity.no rotation would be observed regardless of the orientation of the object.
If you suspend an object from any point let it go and allow it to come to rest, the center of gravity will lie along a vertical line that passes through the point of suspension.
