Solution

The correct option is B True
Transpiration pull is one of the causes responsible for ascent of sap.

Answer: True
  • Transpiration is the loss of water in the form of water vapour from the leaves and other aerial plant parts.
  • This results in water being pulled into the leaf from the adjoining xylem tissue.
  • In the xylem, this pulling of water extends all the way through the xylem column, down to the roots.
  • Thus, plants create a suction force at the tips of the leaves that pulls water through the length of the plant body by absorbing water at the roots.
  • This suction force is called transpiration pull and is created by the process of transpiration.
  • As transpiration pull carries on and on, water and minerals are drawn up from the soil to greater heights of the tree, this phenomenon is known as the ascent of sap.
