There are some polygons which have some of their diagonals as outside it or a part of diagonal ouside the polygon. So, it is not always true for the diagonal to be inside the polygon.
For example-

In the above polygon ABCDEFGHIJ we can see that the diagonals AC and CE are outside the polygon.

Polygon with one more interior angles greater than 180o have some of its diagonal outside the polygon.

Hence the given statement is False.
