State whether the statement is true or false:
Lewis dot symbols indicate the number of electrons of the inner shell.

Solution

Lewis structures are diagrams that show the bonding between atoms of a molecule and the lone pairs of electrons that may exist in the molecule.

The total number of electrons represented in a Lewis structure is equal to the sum of the number of valence electrons on each individual atom. Non-valence electrons are not represented in Lewis structures.

Hence it shows the number of electrons of the valence or outermost shell.
