State, whether the work done in the following cases, is positive or negative.

Work done by applied force on a ball moving on a horizontal surface with uniform velocity.

  1. If force and displacement work in the same direction then the work carried out on the object is positive, and if they are in opposite direction then the work carried out on the object is positive is negative.
  2. The ball is moving in the direction of the force applied.
  3. The force and displacement are in the same direction. The angle between them is zero.
  4. Workdone=Force×Displacement×AnglebetweenthemW=FScosθforW=+ve=cosθ=1=cos0

Hence, the work done is positive.
