Question

State whether true or false.
\(\dfrac{7}{9} = 1 \dfrac{1}{7}\)

Open in App
Solution

Given: \(\dfrac{7}{9} = 1 \dfrac{1}{7}\)

Taking \( R.H.S = 1 \dfrac{1}{7}\)
and converting it to improper fraction to simplify.

\(1 \dfrac{1}{7} = \dfrac{1 \times 7 + 1}{7}\)

\(\left [Using, Improper fraction = \dfrac{Integral \space part \times Denominator + Numerator}{Denominator}\right]\)

\(= \dfrac{8}{7}\)

Since, \(\dfrac{7}{9} ≠ \dfrac{8}{7}\)

\(\Rightarrow L.H.S ≠ R.H.S\)

Hence, required answer is FALSE.
