Yes, the transport sector and economic development of a country are interrelated. This is because good transport facilities assist in the economic progress and development of a country by facilitating the efficient movement of goods and services. The interrelation between transport and economic development can be understood from the following points:
i. By assisting in smooth transfer of goods and services, transport promotes trade expansion and thereby facilitates development.
ii. Transport also facilitates mobility of resources and creates employment opportunities in the country.
iii. Transport facilities help in the creation of place utility by easily transferring the goods as well as people from one place to another.
iv. Through goods modes of transport the various parts of the country get connected, thereby, it helps in removing the regional imbalances.
v. A good transport system in the form of shipping, cargo, ports, etc, also promotes international trade.
vi. With good transportation system in place, tourism is also promoted both at domestic as well as international level.
