No, we do not agree with the given statement. The government has infact launched various schemes and programs to alleviate poverty. Some of the specific measures taken by government in order to reduce poverty include creating employment opportunities, providing financial assistance and to fulfill the basic needs of the economically weaker sections of the country. Some of the schemes undertaken in this regard are Minimum Needs Programme (MNP), Rural Works Programme (RWP), Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP) and Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS). Such schemes work towards promoting development and employment in the country with main focus on alleviating poverty. Thus, we can say that the government has taken various measures with regards to poverty alleviation.
