Epidermis of the aerial part of the plant contains numerous minute pores called stomata. These stomata are surrounded by guard cells. These are a pair of specialised epidermal cells which contain few small chloroplasts. They control the opening and closing of stomata and hence, regulate transpiration and gaseous exchange.
