Solution

The correct option is A Both the statements are correct
A monohybrid cross is a mating between two individuals with different alleles at one genetic locus of interest. When two pure breeding varieties are crossed, it results in the first hybrid generation, which is known as first filial progeny or F1 generation. Offspring produced by the crossing of individuals from F1 generation represent the F2 generation.
For example, in a cross between true-breeding tall plant and true breeding dwarf plant, the F1 plants obtained are all tall. although they contain the genetic component of the dwarf but it gets masked and which is again expressed in the F2 generation. When the F1 plants are self-pollinated, the offspring represent the F2 generations. Here, both the parental traits are expressed in the offspring, in the ratio 3:1.
