Statement 1 is true because Lamarck's theory is also known as the theory of inheritance of acquired characters and he believed in the use and disuse of organs. According to him the part of the body that is most extensively used or changes acquired during the lifetime of organisms get transmitted to the next generation. Statement 2 is false because according to him if an organism changes during life in order to adapt to its environment, those changes are passed on to its offspring. This means that the characters of an offspring are dependent upon those of their parents.
