Justice P. N. Bhagwati had set up the Lok Adalats in order to give free legal aids to the ones who could not afford it. Lok Adalats gained legal recognition as provision of the judiciary in August 1987, through the Legal Services Authorities Act.

The highest Subordinate Court is that of the Sessions Court judge. Under the Sessions Court come the other Subordinate Courts of the State.
