The number of magnetic lines of force passing normal to unit area is the magnetic flux density. Magnetic flux density is maximum at poles where the magnetic field is strong. Magnetic lines of force are directed from N pole to S pole outside the magnet and from S pole to N pole inside the magnet and thus a closed and continuous curve is formed.
