Ozone absorbs high energy UV rays from the sun and is broken down into atomic oxygen (O) and diatomic oxygen. Ozone is again changed to oxygen molecule by absorbing ultraviolet rays having less energy.​
Absorption of UV rays by ozone in the stratosphere reduces the amount of UV rays reaching the earth's surface and also generates heat that plays a role in maintaining the temperature structure of the atmosphere.

Hence, both the statements are true.
