Solution

The correct option is C STATEMENT-1 is True, STATEMENT-2 is True; STATEMENT-2 is NOT a correct explanation for STATEMENT-1
Sucrose consists of 1 unit of glucose and 1 unit of fructose.
On hydrolysis, it gives glucose and fructose.
It's molecular formula = molecular formula of glucose + molecular formula of fructose - molecular formula of water
= C6H12O6 + C6H12O6 - H2O
= C12H22O11
So assertion and reason are both correct.
Now, reason is not a correct explanation of assertion.
Having a formula C12H22O11 does not mean that glucose and fructose will be released on hydrolysis.
Consider for example maltose. It has same formulas as that of sucrose - C12H22O11 but on hydrolysis, it gives 2 molecules of glucose. No fructose is released.
So, reason is not a correct explanation.
