Solution

The correct option is C Statement 1 is correct but Statement 2 is incorrect.
To fight social injustice and to defend the Sikh faith, Guru Gobind Singh established the Khalsa. It was a brotherhood of Sikhs who were prepared to sacrifice their lives for protecting their faith. The first Sikhs who answered Guruji's call and joined the Khalsa were Daya Ram, Dharam Dass, Mohkam Chand, Sahib Chand, and Himmat Rai. Guruji declared them as the 'Panj Piaras'. They were initiated by drinking the Amrit that was prepared by Guruji himself. Following their initiation, Guruji and the Panj Piaras suffixed 'Singh' to their names.
