The oxidation states of Al and O are +3 and -2 respectively.
As a neutral compound, the sum of oxidation numbers of all the atoms must be equal to zero.
Hence, 2(3)+3[2X+7(2)]=0
+6+3[2X14]=0
+6+6X42=0
6X=36
