Fe2O3(s) + 2Al(s)2Fe(l) + Al2O3(s) + Heat
In this reaction aluminium is displacing iron from iron oxide. This displacement reaction is accompanied by evolution of large amount of heat which is utilised in melting the displaced iron. This molten iron is used to join railway tracks or cracked machine parts.
