Solution

We know that the sound is produced by our throat, which has a larynx.
  • Vocal cords are present in the voice box and are the ones which vibrate and help in producing sound.
  • When we speak, vocal cords get stretched across the voice box and are in nearly closed position in such a way that it leaves a narrow slit between them for the passage of air.
  • The rest of the time, the vocal cords are relaxed in an open position so that we can breathe.
Therefore, both the statements are correct.
