$\bullet$ E.g. Iron on continuous exposure to moisture and oxygen forms a reddish brown layer (iron oxide) on its surface. This is called rusting of iron.

$\bullet$ To prevent corrosion, iron articles are covered with a thin layer of zinc. This process is known as galvanisation. Zinc forms a thick layer of zinc oxide when it comes in contact with air. Thus, it prevents rusting of iron as iron does not come in contact of air and water.
