Question

Statement-I: Initially the term pseudo solid was given for solids which were easily distorted by bending and compressing forces. They even tend to flow slowly under its own weight and lose shape.

Statement-II: These characteristics are shown by pseudo solids as in pitch, glass and thus, the name pseudo solid was replaced by supercooled liquids.

Solution

The correct option is D Both I and II are correct but II is not correct explanation of I
Pseudo solids are solids which are considered to be solid though they resemble liquid in many respects . They flow very slowly at room temperature and are considered as supercooled liquids. Amorphous solids are considered to be pseudo solid. For e.g. Glass.
Glass flows down as liquids (very slowly) and because of this, glass window panes of ancient monuments are found to be thicker at bottom.
