In Alkali metals after first Ionization, the metal atom attains Inert gas Configuration which is more stable hence second ionization energy has a large increase from first ionization energy.
As the principal energy level is more closer to nucleus, more is the attraction force between nucleus and electron, difficult is to remove the electron.
