Question

Statement I: There is a high chemical reactivity of elements at extreme left and right of periodic table.
Statement II: ΔegH and I.E increases from left to right along the period.

Solution

Due to low ionisation energy at the extreme left, elements will be able to lose electrons with ease while high electron gain enthalpy at the extreme right of periodic table, elements will be able to gain electrons with ease. Hence high chemical reactivity is observed at the extreme ends of the periodic table.
