Question

Static friction is slightly smaller than rolling friction. State true or false.

Solution

false
static friction is more than rolling friction
When an object slides across the ground, it has much more surface area in direct contact with the ground, which means that the amount of friction is significantly higher. When an object rolls along the ground, only a minuscule point on the object contacts the ground at any point in time, making the stopping force much weaker.

In rolling friction, the object does not get enough time to make bonds with the irregularities of the surface and the irregularities are unable to stop the object for longer time..On the other hand, in static friction the objects irregularities get totally attached to the irregularities of the surface and make bonds with them. when we try to move the object the bonds are difficult to break and hence, static friction is more than rolling friction..
