The area painted yellow consists of two geometrical figures: a triangle and a rectangle.

Let us find the area of both the shapes.
(i) Triangle:
Base of the triangle = 4 ft
Height of the triangle = 4 ft
Area of the triangle = Base × Height2
4×42 = 162 = 8 sq ft

(ii) Rectangle
Length of the rectangle = 4 ft
Breadth of the rectangle = 3 ft
Area of the rectangle = Length×Breadth
→ 4×3 = 12 sq ft

Thus, total area painted yellow = Area of the triangle + Area of the rectangle
