Question

Stopping potential for photoelectrons ejected from a surface when light of wavelength 500 nm falls on it is 0.19 V. Now if light of wavelength 200 nm falls on same surface stopping potential will be (in volts) \(take hc=1250 eV nm) (Write up to two digits after the decimal point.)

Solution

0.19 eV=1250500ϕ....(1)
V eV=1250200ϕ....(2)
By (2) - (1) (V0.19) eV=1250(12001500) eVV=0.19+1250×300200×500=3.94 V
