Solution

Dear student

The person does not hear the sound distinctly as when the echo reaches him at the same instant he claps for the next time .Let the person stands at adistance of x from the cliff .time taken for the sound to travel to the cliff and return to the cliff again is t1=xv+xv=2xv ( v is the velocity of sound)1.2=2xv...1x=1.2v2...a when the person moves a distance 32 m than his distance from the cliff is (x-32)m time taken for the sound to travel to the cliff and return to the cliff again is t2=x-32v+x-32v=2(x-32)v1=2(x-32)v...2x-32=v2x=32+v2...bequating a and b1.2v2=32+v2(0.6-0.5)v=32v=320.1=320m/sRegards
